Le nuage "Morning Glory" est un phénomène météorologique spectaculaire qui se produit dans le Golfe de Carpentaria, sur la côte nord de l'Australie, près de la Mer d'Arafura.
Cet immense nuage en forme de rouleaux peut s'étendre sur 1000 km de longueur et sur 3000 mètres de hauteur.
Ces énormes vagues dynamiques sont visibles en septembre et octobre près de Burketown, à l'extrémité nord du Queensland.
En 1989, Rob Thompson et Russell White ont été les premiers à voler en planeur sur le Morning Glory. Depuis, comme un surfeur sur une vague, ils ont surfé à plusieurs reprises en deltaplane sur le nuage, sur des centaines de kilomètres.

The "Morning Glory " cloud in Australia’s Gulf of Carpentaria is one of the most spectacular meteorological phenomena in the world.
It is a massive pressure wave in the atmosphere that is still not well understood despite many research projects. The scientific term for the Glory is a Soliton.
Morning Glory waves sometimes exceed 1000 km in length and 10,000 feet in height.
In 1989 Rob Thompson and Russell White first soared a glider on the Morning Glory, riding it just like a surfboard rider does on an ocean wave. Since then they have been back many times and have been able, on occasions to surf along the cloud for hundreds of kilometres.
