L’équipe de Dava Newman, professeur en aéronautique à l’Institut de Technologie du Massachusetts (MIT), a mis au point une combinaison spatiale épousant confortablement les formes du corps.
La nouvelle combinaison spatiale s’ajuste au corps sans toutefois perdre de solidité.
Les nouvelles technologies permettent désormais d’intégrer au tissu composé de plusieurs couches, des éléments mécaniques qui lutteront avec succès contre la faible pression.
Dava Newman, a professor of aeronautics and astronautics and engineering systems at MIT, is working on a sleek, advanced suit designed to allow superior mobility when humans eventually reach Mars or return to the moon.
Newman's prototype suit is a revolutionary departure from the traditional model. Instead of using gas pressurization, the spacesuit relies on mechanical counter-pressure, which involves wrapping tight layers of material around the body.
The trick is to make a suit that is skintight but stretches with the body, allowing freedom of movement.
The project was initially funded by the NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts.
